Christenings (Baptisms), Weddings and Funerals

As a Church of England parish, we are here for everyone who lives in our area, regardless of whether you attend church services or not. Our clergy are experienced in helping you plan and prepare for your important occasions and we are always more concerned to make sure all the arrangements are right for you than examining your beliefs.

Christenings/Baptisms

As a neighborhood church, we are here for every step of life’s journey. We are always delighted to celebrate the arrival of a new baby with a christening in our church.

During a christening your child will be baptized with water. It’s the start of an amazing journey of faith for your child, and a special day for all your friends and family. Get in touch with us to learn more about the significance of this event, not just on the day but for long afterwards.

Christenings normally take place during the main Sunday Service at 10am, but can also be arranged on a Saturday.

Weddings and Blessings

Marrying in church is personal, meaningful and spiritual. Churches are special and unique places to get married in; the prayers, promises and the whole service of celebration become part of your marriage, on the day itself and beyond.

Copleston, with its strong community links and location in the heart of Peckham, is the perfect place to start your journey as a married couple. Please get in touch via email  to find out more about exchanging your vows at Copleston Church.

If you are a same-sex couple then we will be delighted to help you celebrate your Civil Partnership or Wedding. Although in law the Church of England is unable to conduct the legal formalities, Copleston Church as an ecumenical partnership church will be delighted to celebrate a service of Blessing as part of your special day. Please get in touch via email  to find out more about planning your Blessing Service at Copleston Church.

Banns of Marriage

If you are getting married in a Church of England church other than your local parish church where you currently live (such as where your parents live) and you are both UK citizens, you will usually need to have your Banns of marriage read at your parish church on three Sundays.

If you need your Banns to be read at Copleston Church (St. Saviour's, Peckham), please complete all sections of the Banns of Marriage Form, and the Vicar will be in touch to complete the arrangements. (A fee of £45 is payable.)

You can check which parish you live in here: https://www.achurchnearyou.com

Funerals

We are here to help you through one of life’s most difficult times. A Church of England funeral is available to everyone, giving support before, during and after the service, for as long as it’s needed.

The message at all Church of England funerals, wherever they happen, is one of hope. Although there is sadness because someone you know and love has died, in every Church of England funeral there will also be a message of hope in life after death.

Copleston’s role within the community means we can help you give thanks for the unique person you knew and loved in a way that gives comfort and hope. Please get in touch so we can support you.
