Since the beginning of lockdown, we have been working with local volunteers and food outlets to offer a Real Meals delivery or collection from our centre to more than 50 households - collected, delivered and served by a team of volunteers. The menus alternate between meals cooked by: volunteers; Nandine; Level Six Foods; Fully Catered and Cool Caribbean.
Beneficiaries include older centre participants, people referred by peer and partner organisation and others who feel they would benefit from a meal and eating with others.
We are currently making the transition from our collection and delivery service to our Community Cafe and are are continuing to:
· offer a delivery and collection service to older people who are shielding or more nervous about coming out and/or eating together
· offer a sit-down service to bring our community together and reduce social isolation by eating together, for those who feel comfortable to do so
· support the development of our team of volunteers
· continue our culturally diverse meals provision through our partnership with local businesses
We are also developing our partnership work with referral and signposting agencies.
In response to participant feedback identifying a need for immediate emotional support, we set up a pilot structured safe talking space alongside our lunch service.
